Osteoporosis remains a significant health concern for older men in the US and a significant cause of fracture-related morbidity and mortality. In addition to age-related bone loss in men, androgen deprivation therapy for prostatic cancer significantly increases bone loss, leading to osteoporosis and an increased incidence of fracture. Because many patients who are diagnosed with prostate cancer are elderly, there has been increased concern for the impact of androgen deprivation therapy on bone health.

Topics covered in this program
  • Explain the risk factors for osteoporosis in men.
  • Describe treatment options for osteoporosis in men receiving androgen- deprivation therapy for prostate cancer.
