A 70-year-old man, diagnosed with prostate cancer one year earlier, has been treated with gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists. Aside from his prostate cancer, his past history is otherwise unremarkable. He does not smoke and there is no family history of osteoporosis.

His weight is 150 pounds with a height of 5 ft. 7 inches, which has been stable. His oncologist has asked that he be evaluated for bone protective therapy.
