Older postmenopausal women who have
been on long-term hormone therapy since menopause
to prevent osteoporosis are faced with the decision

of the Women's Health Initiative trial and new professional
guidelines. Their risk factors for osteoporosis
and fracture need to be evaluated together with
their bone mineral density. Effective treatment
options are available for the prevention of bone
loss and the treatment of osteoporosis.
