Low Bone Mass
Postmenopausal women should receive
education on the significant impact of many
lifestyle choices on bone health. While this
is readily apparent for cigarette smoking, alcoholism,
and physical activity, patients may not be aware
of the long-term health consequences of inadequate
calcium and vitamin D intakeparticularly its
impact on reducing peak bone mass and the risk
that age-related and postmenopausal bone loss
may result in osteoporosis.
